Premium Branded Content in the Mountains: The Olympic Channel & Bridgestone’s Far From Home
Executing raw, high-stakes documentary filmmaking is tough enough; balancing it with the strict corporate compliance, commercial visual standards, and stakeholder expectations of a global brand takes a different level of operational discipline. When WZRD Media USA and the Olympic Channel set out to produce a flagship episode for the award-winning branded content documentary series Far From Home—globally sponsored by Bridgestone—they needed a local partner who could bridge the gap between extreme sports and premium brand storytelling.
The project tracked a truly extraordinary narrative: Shiva Keshavan, India's legendary six-time Olympic luger, training for the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. Because the country lacks dedicated ice tracks, Shiva had to train by hurtling down the paved, public mountain switchbacks of the Rohtang Pass near Manali on a modified luge outfitted with roller-skate wheels. We were deployed as the local line production team to manage the high-speed road tracking and commercial safety frameworks required to bring this corporate-backed vision to life.
To guarantee comprehensive gear insurance and robust operational capital for this fast-moving project, our team worked in lockstep with the corporate core at Goa Film Services. For international equipment import routing via ATA Carnets and national media credentials, the project leveraged the regulatory desk at film fixing in India.
The Logistical Challenge: 18-Hour Days & High-Speed Tracking on Public Roads
Filming an athlete hurtling down steep mountain passes on roller wheels requires a production team that can manage fluid road safety without compromising the high-energy pacing of the camera.
-
Rohtang Pass Road Management: Operating on the steep, winding routes of the Rohtang Pass near Manali required careful local police and civil coordination to secure rolling road closures, ensuring the talent could skate at top speeds without encountering unexpected public traffic.
- Commercial Brand & Sponsor Compliance: Unlike pure editorial documentaries, branded content requires strict adherence to corporate guidelines and sponsor visibility. We ensured that all field operations, location management, and high-velocity action sequences met the premium quality benchmarks expected by both the Olympic Channel and Bridgestone, delivering flawless commercial assets under grueling field conditions.
-
High-Velocity Tracking Mechanics: We engineered the mobile support frameworks needed to safely mount and position camera units onto tracking vehicles, allowing the director to capture intimate, stable close-ups of Shiva navigating sharp mountain bends at extreme speed.
-
Managing Extreme Fatigue: Production demands required brutal 12-to-18-hour workdays back-to-back in the rugged terrain surrounding Manali. We kept the crew fully supported with reliable transport, local accommodations, and responsive field coordination to prevent burnout.
Award-Winning Production Execution
Our ability to turn an incredibly unpredictable road-tracking concept into a tightly managed, safe, and highly efficient shoot allowed the project to thrive, ultimately winning two Silver and one Gold Telly Award.
"Thank you for dedicating your time to this series. The 12-18 hour work days, every day, for the duration of this series was unbelievable. We were pushed to our limits, and from that, we have grown so much as individuals, and together. Everyone should be extremely proud."
